The Grudge is yet another in a long string of recent hollywood remakes. This time it is based off of the lukewarm Japanese thriller Ju-on: The Grudge. The story centers around a supernatural curse born of a grudge held by someone who dies angry. The curse is then passed from victim to victim resulting in your typical horror mayhem.

The other Japanese modern classic from the so called new wave of Japanse horror that gets a makeover is Ju-On: The Grudge (which was in fact in itself some kinda remake from the straight-to-video version of the same name). And to follow in the same trend as described above, this time too the original director (Takashi Shimizu) will take matters in his hands. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and being produced by Sam Raimi, I?m wondering what they will add to this story that?ll make it worth seeing.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Grudge, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar (and didn?t click the above link), should know that The Grudge is a horror movie. I?m sure that idiot parent one and two (here after referred to as IP12) thought little baby Christopher won?t understand or remember any of the movie, it won?t matter if we take little baby Christopher to see this frightening movie.

I suppose it could have been worse? Veronica is responsible for our seeing this remake. I thought the slow revelation of the mystery surrounding the cursed house was interesting, though the monster/poltergeist/thing was sorely lacking in magic rules. Magic rules are what make supernatural or magical things believable. This thing could do whatever it wanted; the poor stupid people never had a chance.

We saw The Grudge at Lowes Waterfront last night. I have to say that it was sufficiently freaky. The effects and moments of suspense were done pretty well. I?m glad we saw this in a theater and not at home.
