There are so many things going on in The Incredibles that it?s hard to pin them down in one film (or one review, for that matter). On one level, the story is about being true to yourself and who you are, while on another it?s about family and being there for one another. On a third level it?s all about superheroes and supervillains, plus the entire story is set in a quasi-1960?s suburbia and yet also in a high-tech James Bond spy world (and the brilliant soundtrack inspired by 007?s own The Spy Who Loved Me orchestrations help complete the illusion).

Today I went with Dan to see Pixar?s newest creation, ?The Incredibles.? I am a big fan of Toy Story 1 and 2, and I thought A Bug?s Life was also very good. But I was disappointed by Finding Nemo - apparently it appealed to parents, but I found it lacking in the multi-layered storyline and humor that makes Pixars other titles so classic.

The company rented a screen at the Barton Creek AMC theatre today for everyone at work to watch the debut of Pixar?s new animated film, The Incredibles. We were able to bring a guest, so I brought Jody with me and she really enjoyed it. The Incredibles was ?incredible. It seems like Pixar gets better with everything they do and it didn?t hurt that they enlisted the talents of Brad Bird, the man responsible for The Iron Giant. While I was watching it, I kept thinking how amazing it would be to be involved in something like that.

I took my wife and my two youngest daughters to see Pixar?s The Incredibles last night.
I don?t have the time or the skill to write a long review. All I can say is that this is a really fun movie. I laughed, I cried, I marveled at the animation, and I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
I sometimes have trouble sitting through a two hour movie without getting drowsy (blame it on this and this). I am happy to report that I had no problem staying awake last night!

We saw this one over the weekend. It might just be me but I think this is the best of the Pixar movies I?ve seen?mostly because I can relate to the grown-up concerns that run through the entire film (like Mr. Incredible, I, too, am an overweight middle aged white guy family man whose best days are behind me). The action is more relentless and the kids-in-danger aspect is played up just right, with lots of cool explosions. Also, its nice to watch a cartoon where the adults aren?t clueless morons for a change.

A mix of Alan Moore?s Watchmen (though not nearly as dark), Tex Avery?s wacky WB cartoons, and Jack Kirby?s early Marvel comics work The Incredibles wrap up all the basic elements of a good superhero story into a single movie. There?s the disgruntled villain, the conflict of dealing with super-abilities, and most importantly smart alec kids. The most interesting part of The Incredibles (to me at least) was how they were able to show superheros adjusting to everyday ?civilian life? in the working world - I almost liked those scenes better than the fights with the giant robot.
